thanks for that update. the hotels didnt really figure often because mostly the price had already excluded the VAT, so they could advertise a lower price. that way it was a more competitive price and the visitor didnt have to claim anything back.
wow. $100 minimum now. thats heavy..
As for hostels, most places in the downtown core are pretty cheap, both in price and in quality. Head down to St Denis street near Rene Levesque and there are tons of hostels. Average price is close to $20 per night, but don’t expect much.
Food is pretty cheap. Pizza is like $1.50 per slice… You can take the bus or metro almost anywhere, but you have to buy tickets. I don;t think that we have a weekly pass program.
Most nightclubs are ok-ish. You can go to some bars on St Laurent and there are some good clubs there. Tourists mostly hang out on Crescent street though..
The airport is NW of Toronto and there is really not much around it that is unique. You can take a cab into downtown but depending on the time and day it could take between 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours one way because traffic can be bad at rush hour. There is no rapid transit to the airport.
There may be something on depending on the season but I don’t think much will be available if you only have a few hours. You can enjoy one of the most expensive airports in the world to land in!.
Well I am from S. Ontario and it is a nice place.
I do agree with the previous posted about Detroit and would actually advise you not to stop there as it can be rather dangerous
Now back to Ontario, I dont know exactly what you are looking to do but of course Niagara is a must see. But dont just got to the falls ( the main tourist stuff) Niagara on the lake ( the city near Niagara falls) is a wonderful little city with a great atmosphere. It is in wine country so there are 100s of wineries to go tour and great little cafes and restaurants to go to. Its rather picturesque
You were also asking about the lakes. Well Lake Ontario is the closest but also the most dirty and not many people go there for recreation. Lake Erie is really nice and not so far from Toronto.
